FOR THE LOVE OF SCIENCE

“Free to live, free to learn” is the founding statement on which the legacy of the SAME Foundation built their impeccable track record of uplifting communities across South Africa. AYO is proud to be affiliated to this organisation which has completed 60 projects in a spate of 16 years and we will continue to invest in these impactful initiatives in the future.

The latest successful collaboration between AYO and the SAME Foundation, completed in January 2020, saw the creation of a resource centre including state-of-the-art science laboratory and computer classroom at Kulani Secondary School in the township of Langa in the Western Cape. 43 computers, furniture, network, printers and software were installed in the centre with the aim to empower and inspire interest in STEM subjects amongst the 1,600 learners at the school. Historically students from this community have grappled with science-related subjects and the project was aimed at, amongst other objectives, to expose learners to the exciting world of science and spark their interest in the field. The new resource centre provides these young minds with ample opportunities to experiment with modern tools and equipment and understand the practical applications of their learning in all aspects of daily lives from predicting the weather, to food technology to car manufacturing.
